Welcome to REVOLUTION RADIO

About

Founded by Rose Conti in June 2020 and inspired by the Black Lives Matter movement, the aim of Revolution Radio is to aid education on issues of social justice and equality via music. We want to create a huge compendium of songs and artists that have helped teach us and speak for us about the problems today’s world faces - such as institutional racism, sexism, homophobia, class issues, poverty and other facets of the often corrupt establishment - and share it with the world in the hopes that if they won’t listen to anything else, they will at least listen to the music.

For many of us, music has been and still is instrumental to our learning about the injustice in the world. One song or overheard lyric can make us think about the world in a different way and prompt us to research events and issues we may have never heard of prior. At RR, we want to condense this experience into one, easy-to-navigate site. By browsing by topic, users can choose issues they are interested in and take inspiration from the artists and songs they find there to then go on to learn more, which we will further aid by providing links to relevant information and petitions where we can. By browsing by genre, users can explore music they like (or don’t like!), and see what else they can learn from their newly-found favourites by looking at the issues that they sing about. The artist A-Z will provide an easy way to re-find artists and songs after a browsing session and will act as a glossary of outspoken artists that will inspire users in their activism. We believe that the site could be useful to anyone at any time, whether they are just starting out on their political journeys, are in search of clarification on difficult topics, or simply want more inspiration to fight the good fight.

Community-led activism

The assortment of artists, songs and issues featured on RR must come from a diverse body of people with diverse experiences and perspectives, otherwise the goal is rendered null and void. For this reason, RR will run on submissions, and we encourage anyone and everyone to share music that they are passionate about and that has raised their awareness of social issues and inequality, or spoken for them in times of injustice. Share this website with your family and friends and let’s build a stronghold of politically active artists and songs to fight along with!

Songs by artists of any race, religion, sex, or gender are welcome, as long as their songs have spoken up about injustice. Of course, in songs handling racism, we want to amplify BAME voices; in songs handling feminism, we want to amplify female voices, and so on and so forth. However we also want to show that even if you are not part of a marginalised group, you can and SHOULD still support them, which we will show by including those who have led by example by using their platforms to speak about issues that may not even affect them.

And please, we don’t want celebrities singing ‘Imagine’ from the comfort of a mansion. We’re sick of imagining.

It’s time to get tuned in.
